Welcome to Year 4
Mr Howlett, Miss Swan, Miss Westney and Mrs Osborne would like to warmly welcome you to the year 4 class page.
In Autumn 2, Year 4 will be embarking on a Scandinavian adventure! They will be learning all about the fantastic fjords and the area around them. They will be finding out what fjords are and will look at settlement and land use within their surroundings. They will explore economic activity and trade links that the geographical area provides. We will also be learning about the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch and trying to create a Munch inspired digital piece of art!
In maths, the children will continue to develop and build on their addition and subtraction skills as well as furthering their multiplication and division knowledge and understanding. This will then help them to progress with their fractions learning which we will start to look at this half term.
In English, the children will continue to build on their reading skills focussing on Icelandic author, Andri Snaer Magnason’s, novel ‘The Story of the Blue Planet.’ In writing the children will have the opportunity to write their own adventure stories as well as exploring different styles of poetry such as cinquains and haikus.
PE lessons will see the children taking part in net and wall games as well as some Martial arts lessons focussing on mindfulness supported by an online coach.
We will continue to develop the children’s understanding of Christianity in our RE lessons focussing on incarnation.
The children will continue to expand their French vocabulary by exploring French festivals and how they are celebrated. They will continue learning to use sign language to express the lyrics to a song in music, something that the children really enjoyed during last half term.
Science will see the children learning about electricity and giving them the opportunity to explore electrical components and how they can be put together to create a simple circuit., This will then give them the knowledge they need to create a designed object that lights up.
There will be the continued expectations for children to read at home on a daily basis as well as regularly logging on to Times Table Rock Stars and Spelling Shed. Homework will be via Google Classroom and will be set on a Friday to be completed by the following Wednesday.
We thank you for your continued support with your child’s learning.
Google Classroom – Home Learning
We have chosen Google Classroom as a free and secure learning platform for the teachers and students of Howbridge Junior School. It provides a safe way for us to connect with each other, share content, access classwork, complete homework, participate in discussions and receive class information.
Using Google Classroom allows your child to complete work that has been set by their teacher and other staff at any time through the Internet and is accessible online and through mobile devices with Internet capabilities—including iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
We would remind parents and pupils, that as a school resource, pupils must continue to adhere to our Pupil Acceptable Use Agreement.
